Manawatu

Overview

Life Education Trust Manawatu delivers the Healthy Harold programme across the region - from Sanson to Palmerston North including Feilding. We reach approximately 7,000 children every year from 30+ primary schools and early childhood services.

We rely heavily on community organisations for backing and support as we are not government-funded. If you wish to know more about the work we are doing with our local tamariki and how you may be able to help, please reach out, we would love to hear from you!

Our Team

Tim Jones

Hi there, I have the amazing privilege of being the educator for Life Education Manawatu. I have been a teacher since 1992, teaching at a number of schools in a variety of roles in the Manawatu. I joined Life Education in 2015 and have loved every minute of this enormously rewarding, positive & life-affirming role. I continue to be astounded at the potential, kindness, honesty & energy of the stunning tamariki in the Manawatu.

I am lucky enough to be married to Beth and have 3 awesome children: Makaela, Isabella and Benjamin. I love music, having played the recorder, clarinet & percussion (among others), with a special interest in classical & film music. I am head of percussion for the Manawatu Sinfonia, and I have conducted them and many other groups over the years.

I am extremely passionate about the importance of the timely, uplifting messages that make Life Ed such a valuable experience for our incredible students & teachers, and I am supported in my endeavours by a superb team of local trustees and our brilliant crew at National Office.

Kay Cave

Kay Cave - Trust Chair

A dedicated member of the Trust since 2017, currently serving as Chair. I am deeply committed and support the Trust in all its endeavours, actively promoting Life Education Trust’s philosophy in the community.

Life Education trust teaches our young people health and wellness skills, provides information and tools to help our tamariki and rangitahi navigate their way through the world and succeed in what they want to achieve.

I love seeing the energy and excitement in the young and old when Harold and Tim strut their stuff in the community, bringing lots of smiles and stories.

Tracey Alston - Trustee

Tracey joined the Trust in 2022 and is passionate about supporting initiatives that empower young people to make positive choices for their health and wellbeing. She is the General Manager at Cooper Rapley Law in Palmerston North and brings a strong background in governance and business management. Tracey oversees the accounting and finance function for the Trust alongside her team at CR Law, who have been long-time supporters of the Trust.

Tracey values being able to give back to the community and sits on the board of trustees for other community groups in the area.

Mia Broughan - Trustee and Education Support Mentor

Mia serves as a trustee for Life Education Manawatū and is the Education Support Mentor for our educator Tim — and Harold too, of course. She joined the Trust out of a deep passion for high-quality health education and a belief that Life Education delivers vital health and social learning in a way that is engaging, mana-enhancing, and truly memorable for tamariki.

With 20 years’ experience as a kaiako and 16 years in school leadership, Mia brings extensive educational knowledge and a strong commitment to student wellbeing. She has been the Tumuaki Tuarua (Deputy Principal) at Cloverlea School for the past four years, supporting learners, whānau, and staff across the school community.

Born and raised in the Manawatū, Mia is proud to contribute to the wellbeing of local tamariki and rangatahi. Outside of her professional life, she and her husband are proud parents to five children and grandparents to three, keeping her firmly connected to the joys and challenges of growing great humans.

Brian Henderson - Trustee

Brian is passionate about supporting the wellbeing and education of young people in the Manawatu region. As a father to three wonderful daughters, he understands the importance of creating opportunities that help children thrive and reach their full potential.

Professionally, Brian brings a wealth of experience from his career in agribusiness, where he has worked closely with rural communities to foster growth and resilience. His role as Area Agribusiness Manager has given him a deep appreciation for the values of connection, sustainability, and care—principles that align perfectly with the mission of Life Education.

Brian’s commitment to the Trust is driven by a belief that every child deserves the tools and confidence to make positive choices for their future. He is proud to contribute his skills and energy to an organisation that makes a real difference in the lives of local families.

Joce Goodman

Joce Goodman - Trustee

Since retiring eight years ago, Joce has sought involvement with endeavours which assist disadvantaged young people to become better equipped to deal with the many aspects of life for which they are thus far ill-prepared. She believes that the Life Education Trust provides the most comprehensive assistance and motivation available to the many young people fortunate enough to have contact with Harold and his talented and inspirational educators.
