I was born in Whangarei but have lived most of my life in Auckland, with a few years based in Melbourne. I have experience teaching children of all ages, and each year level is my favourite for different reasons!

It is an honour to work alongside fellow educators, Mat and Harold, in the Auckland West Life Education Trust. I love teaching in the mobile classroom as it is such an engaging environment and it’s a joy to see students’ eyes light up in wonder as they discover new things about the brain and body.

Harold and the mobile classroom are great teaching tools we use to support classroom teachers in empowering their students to make the best choices and be the healthiest they can be. He waka eke noa - we are all in this together, and together we can make a difference!

Mat Harris

Mat Harris

Mat grew up in a small farming community in Central Otago. Having completed his schooling and Universtity years in nearby Dunedin he moved to Auckland for a career in teaching. Mat is thrilled to be part of the West Auckland Life Education whanau and can’t wait to get started.

Previously, Mat was a Team Leader and teacher at a large primary school in East Auckland. Since buying a home and moving out West, he has spent time relieving at many schools and has enjoyed the variety and getting emerged in the schools that West Auckland has to offer. Mat brings with him many years of teaching experience across all ages of Primary Education. As a Team Leader, he was passionate about learning and leading in Mindfulness Education and Resilience in young people.

A note from Mat

I am so excited to be a part of the West Auckland Life Education Whānau. I was drawn to work with Life Education Trust as I have huge belief in the programmes that we deliver and the difference that we can make to our young people. In an ever changing world, it is important that we are gifting children with the knowledge and the strategies to help guide them through life so that they are able to be the best version of themselves that they can be. I am looking really forward to getting into more schools across wonderful West Auckland and continuing to deliver that quality programmes and interactive learning that Life Education Trust offers. Harold and I hope to meet with many of you in the near future!
