- What are feelings?
- Students can develop their emotional intelligence by exploring what feelings are. They can identify their own feelings and how they can change, and the importance of recognising the feelings of others.
- How can we manage our big emotions?
- Students explore why some emotions can be uncomfortable to feel. Is it OK to feel angry? Sad? Worried? What can we do with these feelings?

Memory Game
This level 1/2 independent learning activity uses cards related to feelings. These can be cut out and used in the memory game. The students can use the cards to express a time they have felt particular feelings.

What can you do to be a good friend?
This level 1 independent learning activity encourages students to draw how they can be a good friend. They can draw themselves doing things such as caring, sharing and helping.

Finding Calm
This level 1 classroom activity (group or class work) looks at managing our feelings, especially the ones that may upset us. Students can think of different things that they can do to make themselves feel calm.

A song about calming down with careful breathing (2min 25sec).

Feel Brave
This website features Avril McDonald's stories in the Feel Brave series. They focus on developing children's emotional intelligence. As well as the five keys stories there are also other clips to support the children's learning.

What are Feelings?
Feelings can be defined as 'an emotional state or reaction' that we experience. Students can discover why we have feelings and look at other people's feelings and how we can choose to react to our feelings.
