Outline
Harold invites us to accompany him to a beach where they meet his friend, a diver. TAM helps us discover body parts inside us that help us breathe. We explore the oxygen cycle and find out why trees are important in this cycle. We also look at things which pollute our air and how pulluted air can make it harder to breathe.
Key messages:
-
All living things need clean air/oxygen to stay alive
-
It is important to care for our environment so we can keep the air that we breathe healthy for all living things
Focus
-
There are several body parts involved in breathing and they belong to the respiratory system
-
Why it is important for the human body to breathe in clean, fresh air

We are learning to…
1. say that air has oxygen in it and that oxygen works with food to give us energy
Successful Learning will look like… children explaining the oxygen cycle flow chart/ diagram
2. describe what happens when we breathe in air
Successful Learning will look like… children demonstrating a knowledge of some elements of the respiratory cycle
3. name things that make the air dirty or polluted and describe how that can affect our bodies
Successful Learning will look like… children recognising a range of pollutants in the air
The learning module delivered might look like this:
Part A
-
Catch up with Harold and find out he is off to the beach
-
Focus on breathing and oxygen
-
Hear from TAM telling us about the respiratory system
-
Do Harold’s homework together - making a respiration cycle
Part B
-
See Harold at the beach
-
Go under water and see the fish etc
-
Look at things that need air to stay alive
-
Explore pollution and its effects on our lungs
-
Look at second hand smoking and how smoking affects the human body
