About Us
The Heartland Otago/Southland Life Education Trust is a relatively new trust only having been in existence since July 1999. It was created in order to relieve pressure on numbers for the Otago and Southland trusts. Mr Rob Wilton (of Milton) was our initial chairman and is still filling that role. The official opening of the Mobile Classroom was on July 7 1999 in Balclutha, July 9 in Alexandra and in Mosgiel on July 8. The first school to be visited was Roxburgh Area School on July 13th 1999.

The Heartland trust covers a wide geographical area. Our furthest schools are Makarora and Glenorchy, Tahakopa and Kaikorai Valley College. We cover all of Central Otago and the Lakes District then go through the Maniototo, into Mosgiel and Green Island/Fairfield, through South Otago and West Otago and as far south as Gore. We see approximately 9000 students every year and visit 87 schools. As we have such a wide spread area to cover we have endeavoured to ensure that our Trustees come from all around and so far we have managed that successfully with trustees from Queenstown, Tarras, Alexandra, Ranfurly, Roxburgh, Mosgiel, Moa Flat, Waikaka, Balclutha and Milton. Our trustees are constantly working on fundraising and raising our profile across Heartland. We have appeared at the Alexandra Blossom Festival, a motorway opening, A&P shows and other town parades. Harold is a much loved mascot for many in our area and he is quickly recognised wherever we go.

Michelle Reynolds (nee Panozzo) was our first educator and worked extremely hard raising our profile in Heartland's area and establishing the classroom. She was followed by Megan Marshall who is our current educator.
