| The Far North Life Education Trust was set up in 1991 with the prime objective of providing the children of the Far North with a Life Education Mobile Classroom. The Trustees had to fundraise initially for $150,000 capital plus starter funds for the first year; Educator salary, resources and running costs of $60,000. The Truck unit to pull the Mobile Classroom is very generously sponsored by United Carriers and a vehicle for the Educator by Northland Dairy Products. We are extremely grateful to these companies. The Trust is fully committed to delivering the Unique Life Education programme to each of the 8,000 children (Primary and Intermediate) in the 70 schools from Towai to Cape Reinga. The Life Education programme covers health issues from the very basics to substance abuse, both legal and illegal. Schools do not have money built into their funding for the Life Education programme and because Life Education is not Government funded, the Trustees work very hard fundraising by way of catering, raffles, stocktaking, auctions etc. The annual operating expenses, covering salary, all vehicle costs and administration related costs mean that the Trust has to raise annually approximately $60,000. All money raised in this area stays in the Far North. Because the Far North is not renowned for its large Corporates, we are totally reliant on small business, individuals and service clubs to raise the finance necessary to keep the Classroom on the road. The members of the Trust are committed to bringing this programme to the children of the Far North but this unfortunately can only continue with the support of service groups and individuals alike throughout the area. We appreciate that people have already been very generous but your support of our ongoing fundraising efforts is very much needed and appreciated. |
