Life Education Learning Modules

IIt’s Great To Be Me (Year 5 & 6)

Outline The key focus of this programme is what makes us unique, in particular our personalities. Students visit a planet where people are unable to think for themselves, to reinforce the message that it’s great for everyone to be themselves. We look at what it means to conform and why it is important to make our own choices. We explore nicotine and the effect of smoking on the human body including looking at some of the major chemicals in a cigarette.
Key messages
  • We are all unique and responsible for decisions that we make and that these can affect our bodies and others.
Focus
  • We are all unique and need to make decisions for ourselves. There are times when it is important to conform and others when it is not, it’s up to each of us to decide.
“We are learning to…”
  1. Accept that we are allowed to be different.
  2. Describe the function of the respiratory systems.
  3. Identify the effects of nicotine, especially passive smoking, on the human body.
  4. Realise that we are responsible for the consequences of the decisions that we make.
