Life Education Learning Modules

IHeart Central (Year 3 & 4)

Outline The students are invited on Harold’s mystery train trip around the human body. We meet Charlie the conductor and the team from Heart Central Station as they guide us through the circulatory system. We visit the main circulatory system organs including; heart; lungs; arteries; veins; kidneys; muscles; brain. The main focus is to discover what the organs do and how they work, increasing an understanding of the human body. Imaginations and enthusiasm are the only things needed to be packed for this trip.
Key messages
  • Everything that gets into the blood will travel around the human body affecting body parts either positively or negatively
Focus
  • There are a variety of body parts involved in the circulatory system
  • Blood carries food, water and oxygen around the body for energy and take carbon dioxide and waste away to be removed from the body.
“We are learning to…”
  1. Understand that blood goes all around the body in the circulatory system
  2. Describe how anything that gets into the blood can travel throughout the body
  3. Describe the function of the kidneys
The learning module delivered might look like this:

Part A

  • Finding out about circulation, checking out the circulatory system module and naming the characters that are carried around in our blood including: oxygen, nutrients, water, waste, carbon dioxide, medicines (analgesics)
  • Students take a train trip through the bloodstream
  • Looking at different feelings and how we can help others fit in at a new school
  • Exploring the human body with Karpet Kid

Part B

  • Come back on board and continue on the trip around the body. As we get off at each stop we explore the job of the individual organ and how it helps the body and fits into the circulatory system
  • Finally catch up with Harold and tell him about our trip.
