The Life Education Thames Coromandel Hauraki and Waihi Life Trust covers the geographic area of Waihi Beach, Thames and the Coromandel Peninsula, also known as The Seabird Coast. Our most Northern schools are in Bombay and Ararimu. In the West, we cover the Hauraki Plains and the Te Kauwhata areas.
In 2011, we visited 46 schools and saw a total of 4,546 pupils. The smallest school we visit has 12 pupils and the largest has approximately 450 pupils. Most school visits last two days.
Life Education Trust (LET) was started in this area when its Founder,Trevor Grice, approached Garry Willacy, the Principal of Thames High School in September 1996.
After a lot of fundraising, the Trust was officially set up in January 1999 and an Educator was appointed in July 1999. The Mobile Classroom was officially opened in September 1999. The first school visit, to Ngatea Primary School, took place in February 2000.
