Rotorua

Life Education Trust Rotorua has been successfully delivering the Life Education Programme to many children throughout the area.

In 2011, LET Rotorua reached over 5,600 children in 28 schools. The hard working Trustees continue to raise much needed funds to keep the mobile classroom running.

Heather McGuire
My name is Heather McGuire and I'm a Specialist Teacher at Westbrook School, Rotorua, working with 5 children with high Special Needs. I'm married with 2 children, one of whom has an Autistic Spectrum Disorder. I have an intergenerational back ground in education and a passionate interest in it, especially when it comes to what quality, expert, creative education can achieve, even when the chips are down. It is my pleasure to serve as a trustee for the Life Education Trust in Rotorua. Life Education, as delivered by our educator, is what enduring learning and education is all about and that is the huge fun and wonderment of learning the really important grass roots stuff.

John Cole
John Cole has been a trustee of the Life Education Trust for nine years. He farmed in the Mamaku District for almost forty years before retiring to Rotorua some five years ago. He believes that Life Education has a wonderful story to teach our children that they are unique, that the human body is magnificent and that we all need to support and respect each other.

Jo-Anne LaGrouw
Jo-Anne has been a trustee of Life Education in Rotorua for 22 years.

She is a life member of the Friends of Rotorua Museum and has been involved with a number of fundraising activities in the city over many years.  In particular, she was Chairperson of the Rotorua Boys' High School Millennium Centre, raising $3 million, Chairperson of Rotorua Civic Theatre Redevelopment Trust, raising $6.2million, a Trustee of Rotorua Museum Centennial Trust, raising $23million, Chairperson of Save the Children, Chairperson of New Zealand Aria Trust, Chairperson of Rotorua Competitions' Society, Trustee of Lakeside Concert Charitable Trust, Trustee of the Rotorua Arts Festival.

She is an elected member (Deputy Chair) of the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust and runs her own property development company in Rotorua.

Berni Volschenk (Educator)
I am thrilled and delighted to be the educator in the Life Education mobile classroom in Rotorua and to have the awesome task of being the official carer of Harold G. Raffe.  It is an honour and a privilege to be able to visit all the students in the district and share with them Harold’s message of their uniqueness and magnificence.  And to do that in a classroom that is highly technical and full of surprises, gives me the opportunity to create a learning environment that is both meaningful and exciting.
