Nelson/Tasman

Life Education in Nelson/Tasman

Nelson/Tasman established a Life Education Community Trust in November 2002. This was made possible by patrons Roy and Renate Savage gifting a mobile classroom to the community to enable the Trust to be started.

Since its inception, the Nelson/Tasman mobile classroom has visited over 95% of the Primary and Intermediate Schools in the region – including Motueka, Riwaka and Golden Bay.  The programme has been extremely well-received such that our mobile classroom now has a fully-booked schedule of schools from one end of Nelson/Tasman to the other, teaching the Life Education Programme, and along with Harold, has become a highly visible and popular identity within the community.

In Nelson/Tasman our programme is dependent on the support of a vital group of local Sponsors whose contributions by way of funding and services help us to deliver the programme to schools at a highly subsidised rate so that all pupils have the opportunity to attend.

Our Sponsors are true partners in our programme – we encourage and create opportunities for their participation in our community activities and value their commitment to our goals.  Without these partnerships the Life Education programme could not operate in Nelson/Tasman.

In 2008, Life Education Nelson/Tasman raised over $120,000 to enable the mobile classroom to be upgraded.   This was no easy feat, but thanks certainly goes to the community support and our regular Sponsors.  Our target is to raise 60% of our operating costs through sponsorship within the local communities in which we operate; raising the remainder through fundraising activities and donations. Because we are a volunteer organisation, all funds raised go towards programme delivery.

The Harold Club

Life Education Trust is all about helping our children to grow up with good self esteem, respect for themselves and others, with a healthy body by making healthy choices. Life Education is totally community funded.  The funds required to operate the mobile classroom and deliver the Life Education Programmes to the Primary and Intermediate Schools in the Nelson/Tasman region is high. That is why we need your help.

We need your help and we would like to invite you to join the Life Education experience and be part of something truly special.  By contributing $400 a year ($33.33 a month) you can become part of our Harold Club. Our aim is to encourage a minimum of 50 people to make a regular contribution to the Harold Club and in doing this so, this ensures some sustainable funds to contribute to the operating costs of Life Education Trust.  You can be confident that all monies received remain in the Nelson/Tasman community.

What can you expect in return?

  • You can make a difference to your community
  • Your name printed on the back of the classroom with other Harold Club Members
  • An invitation to 2 social functions a year with a prize on offer for those attending
  • Quarterly newsletters from our Educator
  • Harold Club bumper stickers, Harold pin
  • A GST Invoice (if applicable)
  • Tax Deduction (if applicable)

But the most rewarding part of being a Harold Club member is knowing that you are part of something good, something that works and engages the children of New Zealand in a positive way. If you would like to part of this exclusive group of people then please contact Sheryl.rich@xtra.co.nz.

Thank you for considering this opportunity.

 Feedback from Nelson/Tasman School Principals

“Our Syndicate from Henley School (Year 5/6) took part in the ‘Brainy Bunch’ module. Each child took away knowledge that will assist them in making healthy choices for the future.  Helen the Educator was awesome and really spoke at the level needed for children. She made it an action packed hour and half with lessons broken up with fun games.  Thankyou for providing us with this fun opportunity.”
