Hawkes Bay![]() Background Talking with children who have been through a Life Education Programme there is a great recall of the messages taught. As to whether it has been a fun dynamic experience, the proof is the public acknowledgement of Anne Jamieson our Educator, or Harold, our Mascot. During 2011 the Trust hopes to achieve a significant milestone in Hawke’s Bay with the 100,000th pupil visiting the classroom. Over the last 17 years at least 5,600 pupils have each year visited the classroom which provides a total of 95,200. In recent years, and planned for this year, the pupil numbers visiting the classroom have grown to in excess of 6,300 pupils each year participating in some 580 teaching sessions. This is a mighty achievement for our Educator, Anne Jamieson. Without the ongoing financial support of the Charitable Trusts, individuals and Harold Club Members we would be unable to provide Life Education Programmes to the schools at a nominal cost. A special thank you for the part you play. Harold Club We sincerely appreciate the support we receive from these Harold Club Members. Many have been with us since our beginning in Hawke’s Bay and we truly value your contribution. Our Harold Club Members are:

Also a huge thank you to NZ Post who granted us free postage through their Community Post Scheme and Kennards Self-Storage for their donation of a storage unit for all our equipment. Our Trustees Brian – Chairman Anne – Educator Paula – Marketing/Admin Angela – Trustee Ian Baldwin – Trustee Ian Emmerson – Trustee Paul Toomey - Trustee Brian Kelsey - Chairman Introduced to Life Education Trust through attending as a Rotary representative - not sure how long ago but Nicola says 10 years plus. My grown children had all been through the classroom which endorsed one's view that Life Education has a great message for the children of New Zealand which one should help facilitate. As General Manager of a large rural transport business operating throughout the North Island, my duties within Life Education Trust have changed from Man Friday when first involved to now providing a Chairman's stewardship role. Hobbies - any challenge that one’s children put up although I accept that age has slowed the physical processes. Angela Williams – newest Trustee. Chartered Accountant. Have had many years experience working with Not for Profit Organisations in both professional (as Auditor/Accountant) and volunteer roles. Giving support to Life Education Trust with financial matters – accounting, GST etc. I like to spend my spare time cycling, reading and camping. Anne Jamieson - Educator ![]() I am the Educator for Hawke’s Bay Life Education Trust and also a Trustee. I have been the educator for the trust since its inception in 1993 and a Trustee since about 2002. Prior to working for the Trust I was teaching in Lower Hutt for 9 years at Pomare School. While there I helped set up and run the bilingual unit. Also during this time I was seconded into the Ministry of Education to help develop and write a Maori Language programme for schools. This programme is called “Matariki” and is available to all primary schools in New Zealand. I was seconded again to the Ministry to compile a series of Maori Waiata for primary school children and record these for distribution to schools. These songs replaced the “Waiata Maori for Schools” tapes and were called “Hei Waiata Hei Whakakoakoa”. My interests outside work include sport and theatre. I am currently the President of the Hastings Operatic Society and both tread the boards and direct shows. My sporting interests now are mainly in the spectator capacity but I was once highly involved in Netball both in playing and management areas. (My knees don’t let me continue in the playing area) I am married with one daughter and two step daughters and have a very large extended family which I am involved with regularly. When we are all together we number about 36. I really believe in the message that Life Education teaches the children of New Zealand and am proud to part of an organisation that supports the young people of this country to become the best they can be. Paula Lee-Smyth – Marketing/Admin This is my ninth year working for Life Education Trust, a cause in which I passionately believe. I have a degree in Business with a double major in Marketing and Management which I use to run the financial/promotions/secretarial duties that my job dictates. Currently spending my time with my husband and three children enjoying the beautiful Hawke’s Bay countryside whenever we get the chance. I am at the gym every week day morning and unleashing my creativity with sewing, knitting, painting, jewellery making in my leisure time. Paul Toomey – Area Manager Central Region Westpac One of 40 Westpac employees throughout New Zealand who are local Community Trustees. Paul moves into the Chairman role if and when needed. He represents an enthusiastic group of Westpac employees throughout Hawke’s Bay who actively support Life Education Trust. Ian Emmerson – General Manager Emmerson Transport Limited Ian is instrumental in ensuring the mobile classroom is delivered “on time every time” to the schools throughout Hawke’s Bay.
